You can do as many situps as you want, but I can assure you that you will never, ever, get that perfect stomach doing that alone. On that note, below I have noted some tips and facts that you should know in your quest to lose that gut fat and tone those stomach muscles.

Despite what anyone tells you, losing weight in 1 specific area is nigh on impossible. You may assume that working a certain body part constantly will rid that stubborn fat in that area. Well I’m here to tell you, that you are sadly mistaken. The truth is that only your body can determine where it loses fat primarily and how it loses it. This can come from a combination of areas such as genetics and what output of excercise you complete.

Guess what, this is not true. Yes, sure, you will form great abs by working your stomach, but you will never see them beneath that layer of fat you have. What you have to do is melt fat, and the best way to accomplish this is to perform aerobic exercise.

Eat less food, lose more pounds

If your idea is to shed weight as well as get that flat stomach then you will need to realise that eating food is primary. You may find by cutting down food intake you will rid weight, but this won’t last forever. This is because cardio exercise burns far more calories than exercises such as crunches and leg lifts which focus primarily on the stomach. Cardio exercises actually burn fat from your entire body, instead of just one targeted area. The fat will burn off your stomach allowing for your stomach muscles to show through.

This is the key to getting a taut, flat stomach! Changing your diet will go a long way to hoping you lose your first few pounds, even if you can’t get to exercises yet. It’s only after cardio exercise that one should do crunches to build up the stomach muscles. That said, let’s look at which crunch exercises work the best.

For your upper abs, your best bet is the basic crunch. You’ll probably want an exercise mat, since you’ll be lying on your back to do this exercise. Keep your hands to the side of your head and your knees bent in a 90 degree angle. Lift your shoulders off the ground, as if you’re trying to touch your knees to your chest. Do not move your legs! Just use your strength to lift with your stomach muscles. You will be doing this 15-30 times in sets of 3-4. It is best to rest a few minutes in between sets.

For lower abs the best workout by far is a reverse crunch. The reverse crunch requires you to lie on your back with your hands directly behind your head, knees bent, and feet roughly 5 inches from the ground. Slowly bring your knees to your chest, lifting your behind off the ground a bit. Focus on working your stomach muscles. Again preform this exercise in 3 to 4 sets. With 15-30 reps per set, resting 2-3 minutes between each rep.

These are the two best exercises that can help you define and flatten your stomach, in spite of the hype the multitude of other exercises might get. Use these exercises and tips, and you’ll avoid the pitfalls of improper diet and poorly executed exercises.
